| All the Concertos of Op.11 published here, transcribed for Violin and Harpsichord or Piano, derive from the reconstructions carried out in Rome in 2002. I faithfully report what I wrote in that period in the introduction before publication. In 1729 Michel-Charles Le Cène, a music publisher and printer from Amsterdam, published a series of concerts entitled: “Six Concertos for first violin, first and second violins, contralto viola, cello and harpsichord by Antonio Vivaldi, violinist, Maestro del Pio Hospital of the Pietà of the City of Venice and Master of the chamber chapel of the S.A.S. Prince Philippe Landgravius of Hesse-Darmstadt. Eleventh Work. To be performed at the Pio Ospitale. Year of the Lord 1729”. Antonio Vivaldi composed these six concerts between the end of 1728 (probably the first two even earlier) and the beginning of 1729, intended for the female orchestra of the “Putte” of the Pio Ospedale della Pietà in Venice. The first five concerts were for solo violin, strings and continuous bass with the harpsichord (the manuscripts report the organ, but the style is purely harpsichordistic) and No.6 for oboe (but after having reconstructed the original version, we thought that for this collection it was better to also write the version of the Concerto No.6 for violin which is the same as the Concerto no.3 Op.9 La Cetra).The reconstructions were not at all easy because some manuscripts, concertos 2, 4 and 5 , the work of copyists very close to Vivaldi but somewhat worn out by time (I am increasingly inclined to think that these three manuscripts were copied by the girls from the Pio Ospedale who would then perform the concerts, this is because the writing is very sweet and rounded, basic and clean). In all the concerts we created the part for the harpsichord even where the numbering was not included. This collection of Op.11 includes all the complete scores of the concerts, followed by the parts for the concertante violin, the two ripieni violins, the violas, the cellos, the double basses and the harpsichord. We are very happy to have brought Vivaldi’s Op.11 back to light, because some of these concerts, in part, are not known due to the lack of scores.
