| Giovanni Benedetto Platti, nato a Padova, ebbe come maestro a Venezia Francesco Gasparini, direttore artistico del Pio Ospedale della Pietà e successivamente sostituito da Antonio Vivaldi. Intorno al 1715 Platti divenne membro della corporazione dei musicisti veneziani. Nel 1722 lasciò l’Italia e per circa venticinque anni fu al servizio del principe vescovo di Würzburg, Johann Philipp Franz von Schönborn, come violoncellista, clavicembalista, tenore e insegnante di canto. Nel 1723 sposò Maria Theresia Langsprücker, soprano della stessa corte, dalla quale ebbe otto figli. Morì a Würzburg e fu sepolto nella parrocchia dei Santi Pietro e Paolo. Platti fu un compositore raffinato ed eclettico, scrisse musica vocale e strumentale per violino, violoncello, oboe, flauto e clavicembalo. Per questo strumento sono 18 le sonate e 9 i concerti che abbiamo pubblicato su questo sito. È stato considerato dagli studiosi il principale ideatore della sonata. La struttura delle sonate per clavicembalo Allegri di Platti è quella della sonata moderna, con esposizione e ripresa, separate da uno sviluppo. | Giovanni Benedetto Platti, born in Padua, had as his teacher in Venice Francesco Gasparini, artistic director of the Pio Ospedale della Pietà and subsequently replaced by Antonio Vivaldi. Around 1715 Platti became a member of the Venetian musicians’ guild. In 1722 he left Italy and for about twenty-five years was in the service of the prince bishop of Würzburg, Johann Philipp Franz von Schönborn, as a cellist, harpsichordist, tenor and singing teacher. In 1723 he married Maria Theresia Langsprücker, a soprano of the same court, with whom he had eight children. He died in Würzburg and was buried in the parish of Saints Peter and Paul. Platti was a refined and eclectic composer, he wrote vocal and instrumental music for violin, cello, oboe, flute and harpsichord. For this instrument there are 18 sonatas and 9 concerts that we have published on this site. He has been considered by scholars to be the main creator of the sonata. The structure of Platti’s Allegri harpsichord sonatas is that of the modern sonata, with exposition and recapitulation, separated by a development. |
