Vivaldi Score Violin Duet Concerto RV522

The concerto in A minor RV 522 is the eighth of the 12 concertos of Op.3 “L’Estro Armonico” composed in Venice between 1709 and 1711 by Antonio Vivaldi. The entire work of Estro Armonico was published for the first time in Amsterdam in 1711 by the publisher Estienne Roger. Our transcription of Concerto No.8 was created from the reconstruction we carried out in 1972 from a copy of the second edition published by Estienne Roger, but we also relied on the manuscripts for solo violins, strings and continuo, held at the National University Library of Turin, although other manuscripts are clearly visible at the University Library of Bologna. After having reconstructed the concerto for the two solo violins, strings and continuo with the creation of the harpsichord, we then moved on to the transcription for the two solo violins accompanied by the piano and published after several years for the first time in Rome in 2017. It is definitely of a very, very beautiful concerto to play and listen to. Elegant dialogue between the two violins rising with virtuous mastery towards brilliant heights recalling Vivaldi’s compositional purity. With the piano part, we tried not to overdo the accompaniment so as not to confuse the melodic discourse of the two violins. I take the liberty of advising violinists to go and see the other Estro Armonico concerts published in two books of 6 concerts each Book 1 and Book 2 for solo violin, 2 violins and 4 violins, they are truly of great importance and fully respect the compositional genius of Antonio Vivaldi. I remember that even Johann Sebastian Bach was fascinated by these concertos to the point of arranging 6.
