| Description All the reconstructions of the Op.7 concerts carried out over the last 20 years in Rome by Santino Cara derive from copies of the first edition of 1715 published in Amsterdam by the publisher Estienne Roger, and from some manuscripts kept in the University Library of State of Saxony in Dresden (SLUB), which has many manuscripts of Tomaso Albinoni’s works. Op.7 is made up of 12 concertos, 4 for Violin, Strings and Continuo, another 4 for Oboe, Strings and Continuo, and the other 4 for two solo Oboes, Strings and Continuo. The entire work was dedicated by Albinoni to Gio. Donato Corregio, a Venetian nobleman and probably protector of Albinoni himself. We must also inform you of another 12 concerts, those of Op.9, which Albinoni wrote and had published in 1722, again in Amsterdam by the publisher Michel-Charles Le Cène. This edition also consisted of 12 concerts that Albinoni dedicated to Maximilian Emanuele II, Duke of Bavaria, and in the same way as Op.7 they were divided into 4 for violin, 4 for solo oboe, and 4 for two solo oboes. In truth, the violin concertos of Op.9 are more suitable for string concerts with the two violins, violas and cellos. The complete Op.9 is also available on this site. All concerts have three movements: the first fast, the second slower and the third fast. We must also note that some copies of the manuscripts reported parts of notation worn out by time and which we reconstructed based on the harmonic procedure and based on experience on Albinoni’s intention. However, most of the manuscripts are well preserved, also thanks to the institutions we mentioned before and from which we carried out our reconstructions. Many of Albinoni’s works were lost during the Second World War due to the destruction of the Dresden State Library by the Anglo-Americans. His instrumental music strongly attracted the attention of Johann Sebastian Bach, who wrote at least two fugues on Albinoni’s themes which we have also included on this site in the category “70 Fugues” and used his harmony basses as an exercise for his students. Anche questa edizione comprendeva 12 concerti che Albinoni dedicò a Massimiliano Emanuele II, duca di Baviera, e come l’Op.7 furono divisi in 4 per violino, 4 per oboe soloe 4 per due oboi solisti. In verità i concerti per violino dell’Op.9 sono più adatti ai concerti per archi con i due violini ripieni, viole e violoncelli. Su questo sito è disponibile anche l’intera Op.9. Tutti i concerti hanno tre movimenti: il primo veloce, il secondo più lento e il terzo veloce. Dobbiamo anche notare che alcune copie dei manoscritti riportavano parti di notazione usurate dal tempo e che abbiamo ricostruito in base al procedimento armonico e in base all’esperienza sull’intenzione di Albinoni. Tuttavia la maggior parte dei manoscritti è ben conservata, anche grazie alle istituzioni di cui abbiamo parlato prima, e presso le quali abbiamo effettuato le nostre ricostruzioni. Molte delle opere di Albinoni andarono perdute durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale a causa della distruzione della Biblioteca di Stato di Dresda da parte degli angloamericani. La sua musica strumentale attirò fortemente l’attenzione di Johann Sebastian Bach, che scrisse almeno due fughe su temi di Albinoni che abbiamo inserito anche in questo sito nella categoria “70 Fughe” ed utilizzava i suoi bassi come esercizio per i suoi allievi.
